The Water District staff and trustees wanted to ensure that the public benefits provided by this property would be protected for future generations.” – Craig Troeger, Van Buren Water District Trustee
About the Property: Following the successful conservation of two other properties in Van Buren and Cyr Plantation, the Forest Society of Maine and the Van Buren Water District worked together to place a conservation easement on most of the lands that the District owns in Cyr Plantation, permanently protecting the quality of a reserve water supply, recreational trails, and unique forestland habitats.
The lands are a valued community recreation area used by hikers, birders, cross-country skiers, hunters, anglers, snowmobile and ATV riders, and others.
Recreational Opportunities: Hiking, bird watching, cross-country skiing, hunting, fishing, paddling (please note that use of motorized boats is prohibited on the reservoir), snowmobiling, and ATVing. Trail Information
